Abstract

Aim: Although Rubella (German measles) is a mild, viral infection which often seen in children and can be prevented by a vaccine, it can cause serious anomalies in the fetus when infection occurred during pregnancy. In this study, we aimed to investigate the seroprevalence of antibodies against the rubella virus in pregnant women in the risk group who were admitted to Kafkas University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Kars Government Hospital between 01.01.2012 and 31.05.2015. Material and Method: In this study, serum Rubella IgG results were investigated retrospectively in 15 to 45 years old 2917 pregnant women who admitted to Kafkas University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Kars Government Hospital, between 01.01.2012-31.05.2015. Rubella IgG antibodies were measured by the Enyzme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method in the patients serum. Rubella IgG antibodies values were considered positive for over 10 IU/mL. Results: The mean age of the study participants was found to be 27.1 ± 6,1. 178 (6,1%) patients were considered as seronegative in terms of serum rubella IgG level, whereas 2739 (93,9%) patients were seropositive. Discussion: It was detected that Rubell IgG seronegativity rate was 6,1% in pregnant women. Childbearing age women who had not a history of infection and no vaccination are at risk. It is important to vaccinate women prior to pregnancy and after pregnancy if seronegative women diagnosed during pregnancy, in terms of providing protection against congenital rubella syndrome. Mortality and morbidity due to congenital rubella syndrome can be reduced by vaccinating women who apply to make laboratory tests before marriage. The data obtained in this study is going to be important for the evaluation of effectiveness of Measles Mumps Rubella vaccine which was included in the routine childhood immunization schedule in 2006.

Abstract

Aim: Toxoplasma infections are particularly serious if they occur during pregnancy and may result in abortion, death and congenitally acquired disorders. The purpose of this study was assessing seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection and compare the other regions in Turkey. Material and Method: Toxoplasma gondii antibodies were investigated in 6129 pregnant women’s serum samples from January 2012 to December 2014 in this retrospective study. The serum samples were analysed by Enyzme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Results: IgM antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii were detected 0.3% (n=10) and Toxoplasma IgG antibodies were 20.3% (n=446) in pregnant women. Discussion: Although our study results were similar to study conducted in other regions, our results were relatively low. Therefore, especially screening of risk groups (contact with cats, raw meat consumption, etc.) is more useful in terms of the cost-effectiveness.

Abstract

Amaç: Investagating if there is a difference for life quality different cure type of p. sinus: excision and secondary healing with Limberg flap. Material and Metod: For his purposal we choose patients that approached to Ankara University General Surgery Clinic. Two groups created. Group I patients that used Limberg flap Group II patients excision and waited for seconder healing. Women patients, relapsed cases, patients that has sinus abscesns, diabetic patients and patients that are using steroid does not added to the study. After the operation, we searched for the difference on life quality with SF 36, Cleveland and pain scale between the two methods at 3. week and the 3. month. In addition; we calculated the patients for average healing time, hospitalization time, complications and the time needed for the patient to become capable of working. Results: In our prospective study, there isn’t any statically difference on average age between groups I and II. According to the pain score, there was meanable improvment on pain at third week and third month for each groups but there is no statistically meanable difference between the two groups. According to Clevland life quality level, there is no difference between groups I and II. According to the SF-36 life quality level, mental healty subgroup which used Limberg flep method Group I was meaningfully better than Group II. In respect of third week results, in the physical function subgroup, Group II (open method) was meaningfully better than Group I. Specially between these two groups in a comparison that indicates mental healty level changing, Group I (Limberg method) was meaningfully better than Group II. Discussion : There is still not a described gold standart treatment procedure for pilonidal sinus disease. New investigations has to be planned in the future.

Abstract

Ventricular tachycardia occurring in persons without apparent heart disease is called idiopathic ventricular tachycardia. In this paper we aimed to report a 20-year-old female subject without overt structural heart disease who presented with non-sustained ventricular tachycardia. She was admitted to our emergency department with back pain for 16 hours. She gave no history of smoking, alcohol intake, illicit drug use, heavy consumption of caffeinated beverages, or severe bodily exercise. An electrocardiogram taken in the emergency department showed short bursts of a broad QRS tachycardia with monomorphic, left bundle branch block morphology complexes and an inferior axis. The patient’s tachycardia spontaneously terminated during emergency department stay. With the initial diagnosis of idiopathic ventricular tachycardia, discharged the patient on metoprolol 50 mg PO after observing that her vital signs were stable and cardiac enzymes negative. Idiopathic ventricular tachycardia should be considered in the differential diagnosis in cases presenting to emergency department with palpitations, dizziness, chest or back pain, and syncope.

Abstract

Nearly 3% of the tumors seen in adult age constitute renal cell carcinomas (RCCs). A total of 20-30 % of the patients with renal carcinoma are directly diagnosed during the course of metastatic disease. In order of decreasing frequency, they are mostly seen as metastases into lungs, lymph nodes, liver and bones. These patients frequently apply with complaints of pain due to compression of the mass lesion. We are presenting a 60-year-old patient who consulted to the outpatient clinics of chest diseases with pleuritic pain diagnosed as renal cell carcinoma after examination of the resected from pleural mass.
