Conflicts of Interest & Funding
Eurasian Clinical and Analytical Medicine (ECAM) requires rigorous transparency in the disclosure of all funding sources and potential conflicts of interest related to submitted research. Authors must clearly state funding organizations, project titles, grant numbers, and other relevant financial support—typically in the Acknowledgements and dedicated funding/COI sections of the manuscript. This policy safeguards scientific integrity, supports unbiased peer review, and aligns with international best practices.
Standards & Frameworks
- COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics)
- ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) — ICMJE Disclosure Form
- WAME (World Association of Medical Editors)
- DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals)
- EQUATOR (Reporting guidelines network)
Funding Transparency and Indexing Compliance
Transparent funding disclosure enhances scholarly credibility and ensures compliance with the evaluation criteria of leading indexing services such as Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed. Clear financial statements facilitate the assessment of potential bias, reinforce editorial independence and ethical compliance, and strengthen trust within the global academic community.
Scope and Definitions (COI)
ECAM requires full disclosure of any relationships, activities, or interests that may reasonably be perceived to influence the conduct, interpretation, or reporting of research. Disclosures must follow the ICMJE Disclosure Form and are processed in accordance with COPE guidance.
What to Disclose (Financial & Non-financial)
- Financial: grants, employment or consultancies, honoraria, speaker fees, expert testimony, stock/stock options, patents or licenses, royalties.
- Non-financial: academic/professional affiliations, advisory or leadership roles, personal/professional relationships, ideological or competitive interests.
- Institutional/indirect: departmental or institutional ties, as well as relevant interests of spouses/partners when they may be perceived to influence the work.
Authors, editors, and reviewers must declare all relevant interests for the past 36 months and any ongoing or pending relationships.
Funding Statements & Role of the Funder
All sources of financial support must be listed under a Funding heading in the manuscript. Authors must describe the role of the funder in study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and the decision to submit. If the funder had no role, this must be stated explicitly.
Funded example: This work was supported by the ABC Research Council (Grant No. 12345).
The funder had no role in study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or the decision to publish.
Unfunded example: This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.
How to Declare
- Each author must complete and submit the ICMJE Disclosure Form at submission and update it if circumstances change.
- Include a Conflicts of Interest statement in the manuscript. If none exist, state: “The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”
- Editors and reviewers must recuse themselves from handling or reviewing a manuscript where a conflict exists; alternative editors/reviewers will be assigned.
Managing Undeclared or Disputed COIs
Failure to disclose, incomplete disclosure, or disputed conflicts may result in editorial actions—including correction, expression of concern, or retraction—in accordance with COPE guidance. Allegations are evaluated fairly and confidentially to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
