ECAM Original Article Format & Editorial Office Evaluation Criteria

All original research manuscripts submitted to Eurasian Clinical and Analytical Medicine (ECAM) undergo a meticulous preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Office before peer review. This screening ensures compliance with international editorial standards (ICMJE, COPE, WAME, CSE, AMA, EASE, ORI) and ECAM’s own quality requirements.

The following outlines the recommended format and evaluation criteria for manuscripts submitted to ECAM.

I. General Structural Requirements
  1. Article: Cover Letter, Title Page, Main Text of Article, Graphics/Figures, Copyright & License Agreement, and all required Author Declarations and Statements (including Ethical Approval, Conflict of Interest, Funding, and Data Availability) were prepared for online submission. Informations about the Authors and Institutions were not mentioned in the files to be submitted (except title page) in order not to interfere objectiveness of the Referees.
  2. Word Count: The main text should not exceed 2,500 words for Original Research Articles, 1,500 words for Case Reports, 3,000 words for Review Articles, and 400 words for Letters to the Editor. Tables, figures, declarations, and references are excluded from the word count.
  3. Title Page: The article type (Original Research, Review, Case Report, etc.) is correctly selected. All authors’ names and order are accurate. Each author’s ORCID ID is provided. Each author’s affiliation (department, institution, city, country) is complete. The corresponding author is clearly identified. The corresponding author’s address, e-mail, and phone number are correct. Any previous congress presentation is correctly stated or marked as “Not presented previously..
  4. File Format and Layout:
    • File type: Microsoft Word (.doc / .docx)
    • Font: Times New Roman or Arial, 12-point
    • Line spacing: Double-spaced
    • Margins: 3 cm on all sides
  5. Tables and Figures:
    • For Original Research Articles, up to 2 Tables and 2 Figures may be included in the main text. For Case Reports and Letters to the Editor, a maximum of 2 Tables or Figures in total is allowed. For Review Articles, up to 3 Tables and 3 Figures may be included in the main text. Authors are encouraged to present only essential data in Tables and Figures. Additional or detailed visual materials may be provided as online-only supplementary files.
    • All Tables and Figures are cited in the Main Text of the Manuscript in the order of appearance, are numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals (Table 1, Figure 1, etc.), and comply with AMA formatting standards. Each Table and Figure is self-explanatory and contains all necessary information independent of the text; no data that can be described in a few sentences are presented as a Table or Figure.
    • All abbreviations, symbols, and units used in Tables and Figures are defined immediately below them. Titles for Tables are placed above the tables, while figure legends are presented on separate pages at the end of the Main Text of the Manuscript. For microscopic figures, legends must include the type of stain and magnification (e.g., H&E, ×200).
    • All Tables and Figures are also submitted as separate high-resolution image files in JPEG or PNG format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and clear, sharp lettering and markings. Any data referring to patients’ personal information have been removed or anonymized prior to submission.
  6. Abstract:
    • Abstract of the Article was given. Not more than 250 words for Original Articles, 150 words for Review Article and Case Reports. Original articles’ abstract has been written in structured format (including Aim, Materials and Methods, Results and Conclusions subheadings). Case Reports’ abstract has been written in structured format (Introduction, Case Presentation and Conclusion subheadings). Abstract is unstructured in the review article. Footnotes, references, and commercial names were not used in Abstract.
  7. Keywords: Provide at least three MeSH-based (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html) keywords, separated by commas; each begins with a lowercase letter (except proper nouns or abbreviations).
II. Section-Based Standards
  1. Title: Article titles should not exceed 150 characters (including spaces). Capitalize only the first word of the title; proper nouns and abbreviations remain capitalized. If a colon (:) appears, capitalize the first word after it.Case Reports must include “A Case Report” at the end of the title, and Letters to the Editor responding to a published article must begin with “Comment on: [Title of the referenced article]”.
  2. Running Title: Maximum 50 characters (including spaces). Capitalize only the first word.
  3. Introduction: Include at least one citation in square brackets (e.g., [1]).
  4. Materials and Methods: Use subheadings in Title Case (e.g., Study Design, Study Population, Laboratory Analyses).
  5. Statistical Analysis: Use the heading “Statistical Analysis” without a period.
  6. Ethical Approval: State approval as follows:

  7. Results: Present results supported by tables/figures with succinct explanations; detailed tables may be published as supplementary files.
  8. Discussion: Include subheadings – Limitations and Conclusion – in order.
Heading Levels & Formatting

Use at most three heading levels:

III. References
  • Maximum number of references: • Research Articles: 25 • Case Presentations: 8 • Surgical/Technical Notes: 8 • Literature Reviews: 45 • Letters to the Editor: 4 (The article discussed must be cited as the first reference.) • Citation Style: References must be prepared according to the AMA (American Medical Association) 11th Edition citation style. Authors using citation management tools must carefully verify the accuracy, punctuation, and completeness of each reference. • Numbering and Order: References should be numbered consecutively in the order they are cited in the text and indicated by Arabic numerals in square brackets (e.g., “…as previously reported [1,2]”). • Reference Format Examples: • Journal article: Smith J, Brown A. For online sources without a DOI, include the URL and access date.
IV. Mandatory Declarations
  1. Scientific Responsibility Statement: Authors are responsible for study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, writing, and final approval of the article.
  2. Animal and Human Rights Statement: If humans or animals were involved, state that the study was conducted according to the Helsinki Declaration (1964) and later amendments; if not, state “No animal or human studies were carried out.”
  3. Conflict of Interest: Authors declare no conflict of interest.
  4. Funding: State source if applicable; if none: “Funding: None.” Funding and Acknowledgment must remain separate.
  5. Acknowledgment: Thank contributors who do not meet authorship criteria (e.g., “We thank Sarah and Omar for data collection assistance.”)
  6. Data Availability / Sharing Statement (optional but recommended): Include a statement on data accessibility and sharing.
